Greenyard and Gelagri plan frozen vegetable partnership in Brittany

Greenyard and Gelagri Bretagne have announced that they are in exclusive negotiations to form a strategic partnership, with Greenyard set to become the majority shareholder. A Letter of Intent has been signed, and the new entity could be established by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approval and customary conditions.

The proposed partnership involves combining the frozen vegetable production and commercial activities of Gelagri Bretagne—a subsidiary of the Eureden cooperative agri-food group—and Greenyard Frozen France. The goal is to strengthen vegetable production, processing, and distribution in the Brittany region and beyond. Both companies' facilities are expected to continue contributing to the supply of French-origin frozen vegetables and to the local economy.

The collaboration aims to consolidate resources in the region, improve operational efficiency, and address increasing demand in the European frozen vegetable market. It also intends to enhance the reliability of supply chains and broaden market reach, particularly for products of French origin.

Alain Perrin, Managing Director of the Eureden Group, commented: "In a European-scale frozen vegetable market, this project presents opportunities to consolidate and expand our vegetable business while reaffirming its importance in Brittany. Through this partnership, we would continue to play an active role in the region's agricultural sector."

Francis Kint, CEO of Greenyard, stated: "We have had long-standing ties with Eureden. This proposed partnership offers an opportunity to strengthen sourcing and production capabilities in Brittany. Together, we aim to support the growth of frozen food consumption in line with changing dietary preferences."

If finalised, the partnership would bring together regional production capacities with broader market access, potentially supporting both domestic food supply goals and international distribution efforts.
