Bananas – wholesale prices week 12

Banana prices up by €9–€25/100kg in Spain, Latvia, Slovakia and Hungary

Wholesale banana prices from Latin America and the Caribbean varied across European markets in the week ending 23 March 2025. Several countries recorded notable week-on-week increases, reflecting shifts in pricing dynamics. The data below highlights changes in average prices per kilogram for selected countries based on official market figures.

In the week ending 23 March 2025, Spain (ES) recorded an increase in the average wholesale price of bananas from Latin America and the Caribbean, rising to €144 per 100 kilograms from €135 the previous week. This marks a €9 increase in just one week, representing a notable change in banana pricing within the Spanish market.

Latvia (LV) also experienced a significant rise in banana prices during the same period. The average wholesale price increased from €108 per 100 kilograms in the week ending 16 March 2025 to €119 in the following week. This €11 increase reflects one of the sharpest week-on-week changes among the countries listed.

Slovakia (SK) showed the largest absolute increase among the three countries reviewed. The average price jumped from €123 per 100 kilograms to €148, a €25 difference. This substantial weekly increase highlights a marked shift in wholesale banana pricing in the Slovak market for the week ending 23 March 2025.

Hungary (HU) also saw an increase in the average wholesale price of bananas from Latin America and the Caribbean. For the week ending 16 March 2025, the price stood at €135 per 100 kilograms. By the following week, ending 23 March 2025, the price had risen to €139 per 100 kilograms. This €4 increase, while more modest compared to other countries, still reflects an upward trend in the Hungarian banana market during this period.
