High demand for fresh fruits in the Gulf markets

Like every summer, the golf market is experiencing a boom in fruit imports. According to Ali Murtaza, Managing Director of Maseera Trading, demand continues to grow from one season to the next, and the origins of fruit imported into this market are very diverse.

The Dubai-based importer says, "The golf market is currently showing great demand for all sorts of fresh fruit. So far, we have carried out programs for grapes from Australia, stone fruits from South Africa, soft citrus from Morocco, Pakistan, and Turkey, and watermelons from Iran. Consumption is also increasing for other fruits from various origins, including India, Vietnam, Chile, Peru, Egypt, and others."

High summer temperatures in the Gulf countries, which include the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, are boosting the consumption of fresh fruit. Murtaza says, "We're gearing up for the next series of programs. At this time of year, the demand for mangoes is very high, and we have already started importing them from India and Pakistan. We are counting on South Africa for the rest of our citrus programs and on Morocco for lemons."

The importer adds that fruit prices have stabilized this season: "There are slight increases on some products, while prices have decreased for other foodstuff. Overall, prices are at the same levels as last year."

"Maseera Trading is part of the Pakistani group National Fruit. We have extensive experience for over two decades in the vibrant trading landscape in Dubai. We import more than 40 thousand tonnes of fruits to Gulf markets, in addition to neighboring countries such as Iraq and India," Murtaza concludes.
