Food inflation in Turkey continued to ease in March, with a slight monthly decline to 3.25%, bringing the annual rate to 29.5%, according to the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Türkiye (TEPAV). This marks the third consecutive month of easing inflation. While overall inflation slowed, fruit prices showed notable volatility.
TEPAV data highlights that fresh fruit prices were among the most dynamic in the food category. Lemons recorded one of the steepest increases, surging by 42.4% in March alone. Other significant hikes were seen in cauliflower (33.8%) and potatoes (32.5%).
On the other hand, some fresh produce items saw price declines. Lettuce prices dropped by 14.2%, white cabbage by 12.4%, and spinach by 1.1%, offering some relief in the fresh vegetable segment.
The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce reported a 3.79% increase in inflation for March in Istanbul, with an annual rate of 46.23%. Meanwhile, Türkiye's official Consumer Price Index for March, expected from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on April 3, will offer further insight into national inflation trends.
