The Greenery launches South African avocado season

"Similar volumes expected as last year, but with improved quality"

The Greenery, in collaboration with supplier Core Fruit, has launched the new avocado season from South Africa under the ZZ2 brand. According to The Greenery, the first shipments of the Maluma Hass and Fuerte varieties from the well-known South African brand ZZ2 show excellent quality.

"ZZ2 avocados have been loved by our customers for decades. We see that Fuerte in particular, like other greenskin varieties, is very popular in Eastern and Central Europe, Italy, and Greece—especially in the larger sizes. Hass avocados are more popular in Western Europe and Scandinavia," said Elena Rogojnikova, senior avocado buyer at The Greenery. "Fuerte is also excellent for a variety of healthy dishes due to its distinctive flavour."

The Greenery expects a stable supply in the coming weeks. The Pinkerton season will begin at the end of April, followed by Late Fuerte in modest volumes. The season will close with the Ryan variety. "Ryan is especially popular in Eastern Europe and Russia because of its firm texture and long shelf life," Rogojnikova added.

A similar volume to last year is expected for the South African season, but with improved quality. "In 2024, rainfall still had a negative impact on the harvest, but this year, we're seeing a promising improvement," Rogojnikova concluded.
