Spain's Verna lemon season kicks off with a forecast of 300,000 tons

The Verna lemon harvest has started in Spain with an estimated yield of more than 300,000 tons, which, according to the Ailimpo trade association, is enough to supply the market until June.

This lemon variety is exclusively grown in Spain, primarily in Murcia, where it is native to the Vega del Segura, and Andalusia. "Due to its proximity, it is the only truly fresh lemon available for European consumers," Ailimpo emphasized.

"This lemon travels from the field to supermarket shelves in 48 to 72 hours. In contrast, alternatives from the southern hemisphere take at least 25 to 30 days to reach stores," they noted. "Additionally, Spain ensures a supply of lemons that comply with European quality, sustainability, traceability, and food safety standards in the coming months," the association declared.
