Potato Market Report 26th March

Stable potato demand as planting progresses

Retail demand and home consumption remain stable. Demand for the food service sector is also positive and should continue to improve in the lead up to Easter time. Growers across the country are focusing their attention on groundwork and plantings, as ground conditions are excellent at present. Plantings are on track, and growers are reminded to grow for their individual markets.

Those carrying potatoes from last year are bearing the cost of storage and it is estimated that there will be enough supply until at least the arrival of maincrop Roosters.

Across Europe, on the domestic markets, land work is a priority for many growers. Demand for fries in the catering sector is reported to be good, although prices are slightly reduced again this week. Values for fresh potatoes are reported to be stable due to lack of supply, although more interest is noted in reds at slightly lower values.
