Russia reports increased fresh produce imports in early 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, several regions across Russia reported notable volumes of imported fresh fruits and vegetables, according to data from regional branches of Rosselkhoznadzor.

In Primorsky Krai, 11,166.5 metric tons of fresh produce arrived in one week, marking the highest weekly volume so far this year. Over 9,600 tons came from China, including 3,022.7 tons of fresh potatoes. Additional imports included 1,387.4 tons of bananas from Ecuador, 13 tons of tropical fruits from Vietnam, and 116.9 tons of potatoes from Pakistan. All shipments passed phytosanitary inspection.

Krasnoyarsk Krai received over 21,600 tons of imported fruits and vegetables in the first quarter. Fruits from China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan made up 11,200 tons, while 9,000 tons of vegetables arrived from the same countries. Inspectors also controlled 2.8 tons of leafy greens from Armenia. However, 77 cases of quarantine pests were identified during inspections of agricultural goods.

The Krasnodar region (Kuban) has recorded over 600,000 tons of imported fresh produce since the beginning of 2025. Large volumes came from Egypt (321,300 tons) and Turkey (274,200 tons), followed by Israel (24,000 tons), Uzbekistan (14,300 tons), and India (9,400 tons). Most of the imports consisted of citrus fruits, 440,600 tons of oranges, mandarins, pomelos, grapefruits, and lemons. Vegetables, such as potatoes, eggplants, zucchini, onions, carrots, cucumbers, and peppers totaled 166,000 tons. Around 47,200 tons of grapes, kiwis, quinces, strawberries, persimmons, pomegranates, pears, and apples were included.

At the Russian-Kazakh border in Chelyabinsk Oblast, 42 tons of produce were stopped due to labeling violations. Authorities prevented the entry of 20 tons of Pakistani potatoes and 22 tons of Uzbek cabbage for missing country-of-origin information. Additional earlier shipments totaling 181 tons—including fruits and berries from China and Kyrgyzstan—were also denied entry due to similar documentation issues.

As of now, 285 batches totaling 6,800 tons have been blocked across regions due to quarantine concerns.
