Foodservice potato volume down 1.6% as value rises 2.4%

The 2024 Foodservice Volumetric Report, conducted by Technomic, Inc. for Potatoes USA, provides insights into the potato market within the foodservice industry from July 2023 to June 2024.

The report indicates a -1.6% change in potato volume sold, measured in fresh weight equivalent, compared to the previous year. This decrease is linked to reduced restaurant traffic and adjustments in portion sizes by operators. Despite this, potatoes maintain their status as America's preferred vegetable.

In terms of market value, the foodservice sector experienced a 2.4% increase over the previous year. The non-commercial sector, encompassing travel and leisure, colleges and universities, and healthcare, recorded a 1-million-pound rise in fresh weight equivalent for 2024. This sector accounts for 22% of the total foodservice potato volume.
