Mexico sent more than 96,000 tons of avocados to the U.S. for Cinco de Mayo celebration

Next to the Super Bowl, Cinco de Mayo is one of the most important dates for avocado consumption in the United States and a strategic opportunity for Mexican avocados. Mexico's Association of Avocado Producers, Packers, and Exporters (APEAM) sent 96,379 tons of avocados to the U.S. market to meet this season's demand.

The avocado, especially in the form of guacamole, has established itself as a culinary icon of the Cinco de Mayo festivities, which celebrate Mexican cultural pride on U.S. soil. This trend strengthens the presence of the Mexican fruit in one of the most demanding markets and represents an economic boost for thousands of producing, packing, and farming families in Michoacán and Jalisco.

"The avocado that arrives in the United States at this time of year carries a story of effort, pride, and commitment," APEAM stated. The APEAM partners with Avocados From Mexico (AFM), the Mexican Hass Avocado Importer Association (MHAIA), and the Avo Institute.

These organizations have joined forces to develop the so-called Sustainability Roadmap, an approach that promotes responsible agricultural practices, respect for the environment, and well-being for producing communities. The common goal is to ensure a fairer, greener, and more prosperous future for all actors in the avocado chain.
