Export prices for guava from India mostly stable, demand is strong

The production and exports for guavas from India are constantly growing, according to Sourabh Jaiswal, Business Development Manager for Indian produce exporter KK Star: "Our guava production has continued its steady growth. This means that overall, guava cultivation has increased, and this year's output is higher than in previous years as a result. The weather is playing a mixed role this season. In southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, there was heavy rainfall from March to April, which helped maintain good soil moisture for guava crops. On the other hand, some central regions such as Madhya Pradesh faced a shortage of rain, which put stress on the plants and could affect the final yields. Weather unpredictability remains a challenge for growers."

Export prices appear to be stable, but the prices of the local market are dependent on the weather conditions, Jaiswal explains. "Demand for guava is strong, both within the country as well as abroad. Our main export markets include Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Prices for guava have been mostly stable, thanks to steady demand for both fresh fruit and processed products. However, local prices can change depending on weather conditions and fruit lost after harvest. If there's more spoilage due to excess rain or disease, prices may go up because of lower supply."

"As such, the biggest challenges for this season have been unpredictable weather and post-harvest losses. To tackle these issues, we're focusing on better crop monitoring, timely pest control, and improved storage and transport methods. Looking ahead, we expect export demand for guavas to remain strong, especially if we continue to focus on maintaining fruit quality and improving our supply chain. The EU is now stricter in regards to the pesticide-free fresh produce from India. However, in India, farmers are less aware of this compliance. To resolve this situation, KK Star has taken the initiative to give free consultancy to farmers and free training to teach them how to grow the Guava free of pesticides, especially for European countries," Jaiswal concludes.
