Director of Operations

Established in 1955, Meyers Farms is Niagara-on-the-Lake's (Ontario, Canada) premiere choice for quality flowers and fresh fruit. With an established/modern greenhouse facility and accompanying farms, as well as our own fleet of trucks, we have grown steadily through hard work, a commitment to quality, and the fostering of our horticultural and agricultural expertise.

The Director of Operations will be responsible for the general day-to-day management of two facilities. This high-performance role will require the successful incumbent to champion and deliver the direction and control of all operations. The Director of Operations will collaborate with the COO to ensure strategic alignment and will be responsible for translating key priorities to a number of direct reports. Lastly, as a member of the core Management team, the right person for the role will be a leading example of our culture.

You will develop a strong team focusing on building bench strength that can be elevated to expanded roles to support our ever-growing business.
You will be responsible for the functioning of operations activities, including labor planning for the overall farm and greenhouse operations, employee engagement, overall greenhouse operations, ensuring that day-to-day activities run smoothly.
Lead internal efforts to measure and improve the quality of customer satisfaction by increasing warehouse accuracy and reliability.
You will investigate and resolve customer complaints and maintain a culture of continuous improvement.
You support setting clear, achievable and measurable objectives, and ensure that service and quality standards are consistently met.
You will support a proactive approach to labor planning, including analysis of historical volumes and projected demand, rigorous productivity tracking, and output standards for every process.
You will manage a budget/forecast annually, as well as develop variance explanations and improvement plans.
Maintain positive and constructive relationships with internal stakeholders, and identify opportunities for increased revenue/profit, ensuring the statements of work are compatible with operating capacities or that plans are developed to increase operational capabilities of the facility.
Measure and communicate the team’s progress towards several KPIs and integrate these metrics into a results-oriented culture.
Build and maintain exceptional employee engagement throughout the team.
Collaborate with the COO to ensure cross-department cooperation and efficiency.

What you bring to the role:
College and/or university Degree in a related field is preferred.
8-10 years of operations experience in a fast-paced supply chain/logistics/manufacturing environment, greenhouse operations.
You have knowledge of WHMIS and Health and Safety Legislation.
When making decisions, you consider everyone and engage those who can add value to the process.
You are adaptable in your approach and prioritize with focus on what adds value to the client.
You balance short-term and long-term people and operational strategies to ensure organizational health.
Embody strong financial acumen, including an expert understanding of cost levers, continuous improvement productivity drivers.
You have an ability to generate strategic and cultural direction that impacts the future success of people in the organization.
You have excellent planning, organization, and analytical skills coupled with operational and strategic astuteness.
Intimate knowledge of tools starting from operational process flows driving productivity numbers and calculations leading to labor planning according to customer’s volume forecast.
Other language capabilities (Spanish) is an asset
